Rev.
Fr. Godwin NNAMANI, CSSp. The news of the death of Rev. Fr. NNAMANI Godwin, C.S.Sp, came to us like a bolt from the blue. It was most unexpected. It was not yet up to a week (five days only) after the burial of Fr. Philip Aguh, and now Fr. Nnamani is dead. We never heard he was sick at all. What we heard was: “he is dead”. He died on Monday, 29th January, 2007 at his Parish, St Joseph’s Parish Okura Olafia. His parishioners had assembled for morning Mass. After waiting unsuccessful for their parish priest to come and begin the Mass, they went to the presbytery and discovered him lying dead in his room. Fr. Godwin Nnamani who was being waited for, that morning, to preside over a Holy Mass at his Okura Parish had left and gone for the Eternal Holy Mass presided over by the Lord and Master Jesus Christ. Rev. Fr. Godwin NNAMANI, cssp, was born November 1949. He hails from Eha Alumona in Nsukka Diocese of Enugu State. He was professed in September 25, 1977 at Awo-Omamma. He studied Philosophy at Isienu and Theology at the Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu. On July 6, 1985 he was ordained priest at Eha Alumona. His first Appointment was to Nigeria. In 1988, he served as the Manager of the Spiritan Farm project at Okija near Ihiala. Afterwards, he was appointed the Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Parish, Ebenebe in Awka Diocese and later He became the parish priest of St Theresa’s parish Ubima in Port Harcourt Diocese. After his studies in the United States Of America in 2002, he was appointed to the Noviciate Awo Omamma as Novice Master. In September last year (2006) he was posted to St Joseph’s Parish Okura Olafia as Parish priest. The news of the sudden death of Fr. Gody Nnamani CSSp is bound to be very shocking to many people whose lives he toughed in one of his ministries or the other. While he was a postulant in the Juniorate, Ihiala, he touched the lives of many young boys and girls by helping to establish and leading some pious societies such as Pioneer Total Abstainers Association, Mother of Perpetual Help etc. He worked hard in organising and helping young girls in search of their vocation to the religious life. Fr. Nnamani was a great pastor and a dedicated missionary especially in areas of primary evangelisation. Ebenebe and Ubima parishes were among the many places where he manifested his virtue of being able to be one with the poor people of God. Fr Gody was an honest gentleman. He always worked hard but lived a simple life. No wonder he was very much loved wherever he ministered. Those to whom he was Novice Master, will ever regret the demise of such an upright and conscientious teacher. His former parishioners will miss his honest simplicity and orderliness. Okura Parish has lose a committed pastor who came to identify with them through learning their language and culture so as to help them in their spiritual and material development. As Fr Nnamani died in active service to God and to humanity, God will reward him. We pray that God will not mark the sins he committed due to human weakness. He should rather look on the faith and love he manifested in carrying out his ministry and grant his soul a peaceful rest – Amen Fr. Kieran Alaribe, C.S.Sp. |
